Setting Up External Authentication

BarTender Cloud uses its own identity server, BarTender Identity Service (BIDS), to authenticate users. However, you can use an external authenticator to control access to BarTender Cloud should you want to. BarTender Cloud enables you to usePingID as external authenticator.

ClosedTo setup external authentication

  1. Click to open the BarTender Cloud menu.

  2. On the BarTender Cloud menu, click Administration, then Security, then Identity Providers.

  3. On the Identity Providers page, click Add Identity Provider, then select the provider you want to add from the dialog.

  4. In the General Settings section, enter the connection's name using up to 40 characters.

  5. Enable or disable automatic account creation. By default, this option is disabled.

    This option controls whether an accounted created to use this identity provider is automatically added to the tenant.

  6. Under Default Role, select a default role that will be assigned to any new user that is created. This field is only available when the Automatic Account Creation field is enabled. disabled if left blank.
  7. Under Scopes, select the appropriate checkboxes to specify the identity details BarTender Cloud requests from the provider.
  8. In the Configuration section, enter the Client ID and Client Secret. The values for these are are created by your identity provider.
  9. Click Test Connection to test the new connection,
  10. Click Create Connection.

ClosedTo modify an external authentication connection

  1. Click to open the BarTender Cloud menu.

  2. On the BarTender Cloud menu, click Administration, then Security, then Identity Providers.

  3. On the Identity Providers page, select a connection to modify.

  4. In the General Settings section, modify the connection's name.

    If a user only changes the connection's name, they do not have to test the connection again before saving.

  5. Enable or disable automatic account creation. By default, this option is enabled.

  6. Under Default Role, select a new default role.

  7. Under Scopes, select the appropriate checkboxes to specify the identity details BarTender Cloud requests from the provider.

  8. In the Configuration section, modify the Client ID and Client Secret if necessary.

  9. Click Test Connection to test the new connection,

  10. Click Save.

ClosedTo disable an identity provider

  1. Click to open the BarTender Cloud menu.

  2. On the BarTender Cloud menu, click Administration, then Security, then Identity Providers.

  3. In the Status column on the Identity Providers page, click the Enabled indicator.

    The control turns gray and displays "Disabled".

  4. Alternately, select the connection you want to disable and on the provider page click Enabled in the top right-hand corner of the page.

    The control turns gray and displays "Disabled".

ClosedTo remove a connection

  1. Click to open the BarTender Cloud menu.

  2. On the BarTender Cloud menu, click Administration, then Security, then Identity Providers.

  3. On the Identity Providers page, select the connection you want to remove.

  4. At the bottom of the provider page, click Remove Connection.

  5. Click Save.
